Hostage Rescue Force (HRF) (in Arabic: قوة إنقاذ الرهائن ) is the elite
Egypt ianpolice unit responsible forhostage situation s andcounter-terrorism operations.The HRF was established in 1978 after the failed raid by Egyptian military commandos on
Cyprus 'Larnaca International Airport . The failure was attributed to a lack of coordination with Cypriot authorities, and the ill-equipped commandos, who were not properly trained for specific counter-terrorism operations at the time. A board of inquiry concluded that there was a need for a professional, specialized force for such operations. Therefore, Egypt established two elite units:Unit 777 — an army unit commanded by the Ministry of Defense for international operations; and HRF — a police unit commanded by the Ministry of Interior for domestic operations.This force took part in the Operation in Chad desert for rescue the Egyptian and Eurpian hostage who where kidnapped from the Egyptian Westren Desert.
According to Egyptian Defense Resources "Two units were transport from Egyptian Air Base East Cairo to the chadian land where they relased the hostage and return with them to the Egyptian land without any lost in the force or the hostage...

The HRF cooperates and conducts regular joint training with equivalent elite units such as the German
GSG 9 , the FrenchGIGN , and the British SAS.
