Panayoti Karousos

Panayoti Karousos (born January 6, 1970) is a Greek-born Canadian intellectual composer bringing in to his music philosophy and high spiritualism ideas based in the Classic Greeks. Pythagorean mathematic forms and Wagner influences his works. The grandiosity and majestic heroically sound of his work made critics acclaimed The Spirit of Liberty as a second national anthem of Greece, were presented in Canada and New York with a great success. It was during the creation of the Spirit of Liberty the 30th of March 2000 in Montreal that the composer founded the KAROUSOS LIBERTY AWARD given to Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada for his Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Award was also given to Archbishop of America Demetrios during the presentation of the symphonic poem in New York. The Olympic Symphony composed in the 12 Homeric Hymns dedicated to the Gods of Olympus sung in ancient Greek. Karousos presented in Canada with a great success his operas Prometheus, Olympic Flame, Alexander the Great and the oratorio The Song of the Nations. The Piano Concerto for the Peace presented with pianist soloist Nathalie Joncas, under UNESCOs auspices in an audience of 5000 people in the Montreal arena Maurice Richard under the series Montreal Popular Concerts, the fabulous lamenting and honoring the war missing and dead and people who fought and continue to fight for Liberty of the Piano Concerto made a soundtrack to filmmaker Jenna Constantine's movie "If Aphrodite had arms". Panayoti Karousos presented his symphonic poems Eternal Parthenon, Time Melody, Democracys feast, with the Astoria Music Society, the FACE Symphony Orchestra, the OSJL-L Symphony Orchestra and Monteregie Symphony Orchestra under the directions of maestros Andre Gauthier, Theodora Stathopoulos, Luc Chaput and Silas Nathaniel Huff. Panayoti Karousos chamber music is different from the colossal romanticism of his operas and symphonic works. The Piano Trios and the Violin and Cello Sonatas presented in Beverly Hills City Hall and around Montreal surprised the public with the interior melancholy of the works among with strong harmonic complexity. Panos Karousos started his career as a baritone accompanied by renowned pianist of the opera de Montreal Claudette Denys. Also he impressed with his performance in Patriarch Bartholomew 1998 Canadian farewell diner at Palace, Montreal. As a singer and composer collaborated with the Archbishop of Toronto Canada Sotirios in a 3 CD album named Greek Orthodox Catechism. Also his album Grece Pays dAmour gets the award of Best Classical Recording 2002/03 from the Toronto Radio Acropolis Awards. Panayoti Karousos is a recipient of honors from the Federal Canadian Government, the Quebec Provincial Government and the City of Montreal. Recently the chorus part from the Olympic Flame presented among other works with the Symphony Orchestra and the Choir of Gunst wat'n Kunst at Hague, Holland under the direction of maestro Rafael Pylarinos.
