Back Bay, Boston, Massachusetts .The house was designed by architect
Edward Clarke Cabot , and built 1859-60 in theItalian Renaissance style with an exterior of brownstone and red brick. It was occupied by three generations of the Gibson family. After Charles Hammond Gibson, Jr., died in 1954, the house became a museum. It officially opened to the public as a museum in 1957, and in 2001 was declared aNational Historic Landmark .References
