Javier Martínez Aguinaga (born September 2, 1988 in Pamplona, Navarre) is a central midfielder who currently plays for Athletic Bilbao in "La Liga".

Athletic Bilbao signed Martínez as a raw 17-year old for €6 million, in the summer of 2006, from CA Osasuna,cite news|SkySports|title = Athletic spend big on starlet |url=http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=400116&plid=64947&clid=174&cpid=23 |publisher = SkySports |date = 2006-07-02 |accessdate = 2007-02-03] despite him never having played a first team game. He soon became a regular in the side that season with his powerful displays, with his highlight being scoring twice against Deportivo La Coruña, in a December 16, 2006 2-0 away success.

Martínez's met long-term girlfriend Maite at a training session in Lezama when she approached him for a photo. She subsequently moved to Australia, in order to complete her schooling.
