Veh played from 1979 to 1983 in Bundesliga at
Borussia Mönchengladbach . With Gladbach Veh played in the 1980 UEFA Cup final, losing against Eintracht Frankfurt. In 1984 a broken leg ended his career as a Bundesliga-level pro.In 1985, Veh resumed playing in his home town for
FC Augsburg , moving in 1987 for a few months to local rivalTSV Schwaben Augsburg . Due to injuries he played only 8 games in 2nd Bundesliga forSpVgg Bayreuth before retiring in November 1990.He scored 2 goals in 65 Bundesliga games, one goal in 60 2nd Bundesliga games, and appeared in 18 games of Swiss NLA.

FC Augsburg from 1990 to 1995, leading the team from Oberliga to Regionalliga in 1994. Having moved in 1996 toSpVgg Greuther Fürth , he led the team 1997 into 2. Bundesliga before being sacked in October 1997. From July 1998 to December 2001 he coachedSSV Reutlingen , leading them in 2000 also into 2. Bundesliga.From January 2002 on, Veh coached
FC Hansa Rostock in Bundesliga, resigning in October 2003 from the north eastern team to focus on his family in southern Germany. After coaching localFC Augsburg until September 2004, he was unemployed until11 February 2006 when he was hired byVfB Stuttgart to replaceGiovanni Trapattoni as a stop-gap until the end of that season in June 2006. Yet, on 18 April 2006 his contract was extended until summer 2007, and on 19 January 2007 for another year.In May 2007, Veh and
VfB Stuttgart scored their biggest successes by winning the German championship on19 May 2007 and qualifying for the DFB Cup final of26 May 2007 in Berlin, which gave Veh and his team the chance to win "the double".
