- Teddy-Sumo's Disease
Teddy-Sumo's (TS)
disease is a rare biphasicmetabolic condition first described by Dr.Georgiou Teddy and Dr.Aarne Sumo in2002 . The disease is characterized by recurrent episodes of rapid muscle tissue and lipid storecatabolism (usually with accompanyingrhabdomyolysis and acute faciallipoatrophy ), followed by a correspondingly rapid replenishment of tissues. The latter anabolic phase has been described by Teddy and Sumo as the body entering a state of hypercompensation; accordingly, this phase typically presents physically as skeletal musclehypertrophy and rapid onset ofobesity . Psychologically, a TS sufferer may experience foodcravings ,psychosis and euphoria during the anabolic phase in particular, as well as nonphasic bouts of clinically significantmalaise and depression.
