Flatøy (or Flatøyni as referred to on older maps) is one of two smaller islands that together with the larger island
Holsnøy make up the municipalityMeland Kommune, in the district ofNordhordland , north ofBergen , in westernNorway .Strategically located between Salhus, Holsnøy and
Knarvik , it is connected to these larger communities by the three bridges: Krossnessundbrua (to Holsnøy),Hagelsund Bridge (to Knarvik), andNordhordland Bridge to Salhus. With Nordhordlansbrua, Flatøy serves as the entry point to Norhordland.The island is the home to approximately 300 inhabitants, and is served by a local elementary school, Flatøy Skule.
