The Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Gipuzkoa y San Sebastián (Kutxa), is a
savings bank operating with a regional scope in theGipuzkoa province ofSpain . The name "Kutxa" comes from the Basque name of the bank, "Gipuzkoa eta Donostiako Aurrezki Kutxa" (Gipuzkoa and Donostia Savings Bank).History
The origins of this entity go back to
1879 , when the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad Municipal de San Sebastián was founded in the city ofDonostia . In1896 the Caja de Ahorros Provincial de Guipúzcoa followed. In1990 both entities merged in a single savings bank, hereafter known by the commercial name of Kutxa.In 2006 it had 128 offices in Gipuzkoa, where it is the first financial entity, and some other 145 offices out of this territory. It is presently under a steady expansion period. Its staff amounts to above 2500 employees.
