A graduate ofThe Juilliard School andYale University , she made herAvery Fisher Hall debut in 1995 performing Bruch’sScottish Fantasy with The Juilliard Orchestra underKurt Masur . As a recitalist and chamber musician, Shihoten has appeared at theAspen Music Festival ,Verbier Festival ,Ravinia Festival , and inCaramoor ’s "Rising Stars" series. She has won the Grand Prize at the Marcia Polayes National Violin Competition and theAspen Music Festival 'sNakamichi Competition, as well as top prizes from theNational Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and theSeventeen (magazine) /General Motors National Competition. Her former teachers includeDorothy Delay ,Masao Kawasaki andPeter Oundjian . She is married to organistKen Cowan and teaches violin at Princeton University andThe Lawrenceville School .Proteges
