Berbera Airport is an airport in Berbera, Somalia airport codes|BBO|HCMI. The airport has a 4,140m (13,582ft) runway, one of the longest in Africa.Cite journal|last=Schmitz|first=Sebastain|year=2007|title=By Ilyushin 18 to Mogadishu|journal=Airways|volume=14|issue=7|pages=pp. 12–17|issn=1074-4320] . This runway was built by the Soviet Union (USSR) when Somalia was it's ally inorder to counter the United States military presence in the region.
