cancer centre and the surrounding district hospitals becamecancer units , based on recommendations from theCalman Hine Report , the purpose of which was to provide a uniformly high standard of care as close to the patient's home as possible. It is also the headquarters of theNorth Trent Cancer Network .Weston Park hospital is a world leader in cancer research and provides many specialist services that are only available in a few places across the country. Many of the services provided at the hospital are used to treat patients from all over the United Kingdom and sometimes even further afield. The most well-known of these is the Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (see
Choriocarcinoma andHydatidiform mole ), detected byTrophoblastic Screening . The UK is one of the few countries in the world that both screen and treat women who have been diagnosed with GTD.
