Paolo Mieli (born
February 25 1949 ) is an Italian journalist.Born in
Milan , Mieli debuted as journalist at 18 for "L'Espresso ", where he remained for some 20 years. Initially adhering to far-left positions, as a member ofPotere Operaio , later he moved to more moderate stances under the influences of his teachersRosario Romeo andRenzo De Felice .From the 1980s onward Mieli worked for the most important Italian newspapers. After one year and a half at "
La Repubblica ", he was hired by "La Stampa " in 1987, of which he became director in 1990. Two years later he moved to "Il Corriere della Sera ", assuming a leading position of Italian journalist during theTangentopoli bribe scandal. In May 1997 he was replaced byFerruccio De Bortoli , assuming the position of editor-in-chief ofRcs MediaGroup (the publisher of "Corriere della Sera"), but continuing his collaboration for that newspaper. He returned as its director ondecember 24 2004 .He also worked for several historical documentaries for
RAI TV , Italian state network.
