Bethel Church and Ministries

Bethel Church is an evangelical, non-denominational church located 35 miles southeast of Chicago in Crown Point, Indiana.

Overview

Bethel Church ministers to the Northwest Indiana region and is known for expository preaching, relevant ministry, and contemporary worship. The church is led by senior pastor, Steve DeWitt, who has been at the church since 1997.

The church has a Baptist heritage and holds to many aspects of reformed theology. Key ministries include children's ministry, teen ministry, small groups, and Sunday morning services.

Bethel falls in line with a growing number of churches that seek to provide relevant ministry in the 21st century without compromising the centrality of Jesus Christ and the Scriptures. It is juxtaposed to the emergent church movement, which tends to focus on the relational aspects of Christianity.

Core Values of Bethel Church

"The chief purpose of the human race is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. By that it is meant people should delightfully seek to bring God honor as they follow Jesus Christ. At Bethel, we develop this approach to discipleship through Christ-exalting worship, expository preaching, strategic missions and loving community.

"WORSHIP All of life is worship—a declaration of what is valued and cherished. At Bethel, Jesus Christ is the center of such praise. Using the best of traditional and contemporary methods, the church joins together weekly in a collective celebration that proclaims the greatness of God. Ultimately, Bethel is not about itself; it is about exalting Christ.

"SCRIPTURE Ministry is done by the Book. Since the Bible is God’s inspired Word, Bethel focuses on empowering others by teaching the Scriptures. With an emphasis placed on expository preaching, sermons unapologetically explain what the Bible means and how it can be applied to every aspect of life.

"MISSIONS We want to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ go around the corner and around the world. Whether through partnering with missionaries and agencies in foreign countries or by having Bethel people share Christ with family and friends, our desire is for people to experience the saving power of the Cross.

"COMMUNITY On a personal level, Bethel strives to be a place where people can have a true sense of belonging. Whether through sharing the saving message of Jesus or providing nurturing Christian relationships, the church is to be a loving community hallmarked by Spirit-driven acceptance, concern, fellowship, and unity."
