Vicki Hansen began studying
piano at age four then moved on to study a number ofmusical instrument s over the following years, includingguitar ,flute ,violin ,bass guitar , Africandjembe ,Darabuka drum,bansuri flute,didgeridoo and others. She then spent several years studying NorthIndia n Hindustani flute under the tutelage of Ashok Roy, disciple ofAli Akbar Khan , and then classical vocal music from teachers Neeta Bhattacharyya and Sarangan Sriranganathan, virtuosic instrumentalist and vocalist fromSri Lanka .Career
Vicki Hansen has composed numerous
soundtracks for theatre, dance, circus, film and television. She was commissioned by Beyond International in 2000 - 2005 to compose soundtracks for a number of documentaries that have aired worldwide. She has recorded and produced several albums now on national and international release. She has also recorded several albums with her husband,Ron Ragel , and together they are co-directors of Medicine Music and Global Network, organisations dedicated to research and dissemination of information about the therapeutic power of music and sound, with particular reference to the ancient ragas andchants of India. Through their work, they support suchhumanitarian movements as theSarvodaya Organisation in Sri Lanka, and are advocates ofworld peace through inner transformation.
