Willamette High School, or "Wil-Hi", is located in the Bethel-Danebo area of West Eugene, and is the only high school (other than Kalapuya which is an alternative high school) in the Bethel School District.

Willamette High opened in 1949, four years after several rural elementary school districts north and west of Eugene consolidated into the Bethel district.

Willamette's Mission: The mission of Willamette High School is to provide a comprehensive curriculum and an environment which demonstrates to students that learning is a lifelong process

Wolverine Stadium

Willamette football home games are played at [http://www.bethel.k12.or.us/stadium/ Wolverine Stadium] which was completely rebuilt after being burned down on August 2nd, 2003. In August 2008 Wolverine Stadium will have new artificial turf field that was paid for as a joint project between the Bethel School District and the City of Eugene. Athletics

Willamette has a variety of athletic teams, playing at the 5A level, in the Midwestern League for the Oregon School Activities Association. These teams include: football, volleyball, soccer, cross-country, wrestling, track & field, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, swim, and basketball.

Football

The 2007 football season has also been a success for the Wolverines, splitting the Midwestern League title for the first time since 1994 and earning a #1 seed in the OSAA Playoffs. The team's Varsity coach is Dan Fritz and the JV coach is Russ Smith

Girls Basketball

In recent years, the Willamette girls' basketball team has been one of the top-rated teams in the state. On March 10, 2007, the Wolverines won the 5A state girls' basketball championship

Girls Soccer

Johanna Henry is in her 12th year of coaching the girls soccer program at Willamette High. Johanna also runs the Willamette Soccer Club which has over 150 girls in the Bethel area. Coach Thomas Goodman was hired in 2008 as the JV coach at Willamette.

Notable Alumni

Blues musician Curtis Salgado, who inspired John Belushi to form the Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd, is a 1971 graduate of Willamette High. "The Blues Brothers" movie character Curtis, the orphanage janitor (played by Cab Calloway), was named for Salgado. Mickey Loomis, class of 1980, is executive vice president and general manager of the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League.
