The Rays was an American musical group formed in New York in 1955, and active in the 1950s. They first recorded for
Chess Records . Their biggesthit single was "Silhouettes," a moderately-slowdoo-wop piece ofpop music that reached #3 on theBillboard Hot 100 in 1957, released on XYZ Records (and picked up byCameo Records for national distribution). The song was written byBob Crewe andFrank Slay .This
song was later released in a slightly faster version with more of a triplet feel by the groupHerman's Hermits in the mid 1960s.It was also covered by
Bob Dylan , but still unreleased, from hisBasement Tapes sessions in the late '60s.By on XYZ, they also had a mild hit with "Magic Moon".
