Xia Xuanze (zh-s|夏煊泽, born January 5, 1979 in Zhejiang) is a male Chinese badminton player.

He became world champion at the 2003 IBF World Championships.

Career

Player attributes

Xia is a very talented player. He has set the standard for the new era of Chinese players. His deceptive net play has been copied by his good friend and former compatriot, Chen Hong. Lin Dan has developed this quality as well, mastering it to perfection. It is mainly a very quick rush to the net, then pulling back and playing a very tight net shot, which when played properly, will almost certainly be an outright winner. Xia has the quality to keep rallies going. He is known for taking the shuttle very late, sometimes near the floor (or even when he has ended up flat on his backside during a rally) and playing precise shots. He is also known for his footwork and amazing stamina, where he can keep his speed throughout a match, making his attire purposeful, which is why he has a World Championship gold medal.

Xia competed in badminton at the 2000 Summer Olympics in men's singles. He had a bye in the first round and defeated Keita Masude from Japan in the second round. In the round of 16 he beat Svetoslav Stoyanov and in quarterfinals Wong Choong Hann, to advance to the semifinals. There, he lost to Hendrawan 15-12, 15-4. In the bronze medal match Xia defeated Peter Gade 15-13, 15-5.
