Jeffrey Cameron Russel participated in athletics at
Lucas School inMontreal, Quebec andLower Canada College . Russel was a star halfback atRoyal Military College of Canada , inKingston, Ontario from 1917-1920. He played forMcGill University in Montreal, Quebec from 1920-1922.He played as a backfielder for the
Montreal Winged Wheelers of the Amateur Athletic Association from 1922-1925. He worked for theMontreal Light, Heat and Power Company .While repairing power lines in a storm, Russel was killed on May 3, 1926.
Honours and Awards
The "Jeff Russel memorial trophy" is presented annually, in his honour to the eastern player possessing courage, fair play and sportsmanship. This trophy has been awarded since 1973 to the most outstanding player in the eastern division.
On June 19, 1963, Russel was elected as a Player to the
