frozen = The Veerse Meer is alagoon in the province ofZeeland , theNetherlands . It was separated from theNorth Sea in1961 by theDelta Works dam system. It is 22 km long, and 1,500 m wide in places. Lying between the old islands ofNoord-Beveland ,Zuid-Beveland andWalcheren , it is linked to the riverScheldt by theZandkreekdam lock, which allows this lagoon to havebrackish water , slightly less salty than sea water. There are 13 small uninhabited islands in the lake.
