Aylett Hawes

Aylett Hawes (April 21, 1768 – August 31, 1833) was a nineteenth century politician and planter from Virginia. He was the uncle of Richard Hawes, Albert Gallatin Hawes and Aylett Hawes Buckner.

Born in Culpeper County, Virginia, Hawes pursued in classical studies, studied medicine and finished his education in Edinburgh, Scotland. He returned to Virginia and practiced medicine as well as engaging in planting. He became a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, serving from 1802 to 1806, and was elected a Democratic-Republican to the United States House of Representatives in 1810, serving from 1811 to 1817. Afterwards, he returned to medicine and was also an extensive landowner. He died on his farm in Rappahannock County, Virginia on August 31, 1833 and was interned on another farm in Sperryville, Virginia.
