Marilyn Bauer is a fictional character on the television show "24", played by Rena Sofer. Marilyn Bauer is married to Graem Bauer, with whom she has a child, Josh Bauer. She also apparently had some relationship with, and some continuing feelings for, her brother-in-law, Jack Bauer.

Before Day 6

At the time of her marriage to Graem Bauer, Marilyn may have had feelings for Jack Bauer, with whom she had had some relationship. She and Graem had a child, Josh Bauer, but their relationship over the years was troubled. During Season 6, Marilyn stated that the only thing that had stopped her from leaving Graem was that Graem was going to find a way to get custody of their son, Josh.

One night prior to Day 6, Marilyn surreptitiously followed Graem, suspecting he was having an affair and hoping that could be leverage in a custody fight. She followed Graem to a house and overheard fragments of a conversation between Graem and various men with Russian accents.

During Day 6, viewers are first introduced to Marilyn in an episode in which it is revealed that "Graem" of Season 5 is Jack's brother. Graem further sets up potential romantic tension between Jack and Marilyn, asking if she has feelings for Jack.

Marilyn's character is largely out of the picture while Jack interrogates Graem, but Marilyn and Josh are taken to CTU for further debriefing. Some time later, Marilyn tells Jack about her experience following Graem. Jack and CTU feel that this incident is likely tied to Graem's dealings with former Soviet General Dmitri Gredenko, the man responsible for supplying Abu Fayed with the five nuclear suitcase weapons. CTU was not the only one trying to find Gredenko — Phillip Bauer, Marilyn's father-in-law (Jack's father) and his company BXJ Technologies, need Gredenko to be terminated to keep their cover. While Jack and Marilyn drove around, attempting to find Gredenko's location, she received a phone call from Phillip. He was threatening to harm his own grandson, Josh, if Marilyn didn't feed Jack a fake address. Having to choose between Jack or Josh, she chose Josh and goes along with Phillip, leading Jack and a CTU TAC team to the fake location given to her. They raid the house, only to find it empty except for armed C4 explosives. Jack yells a warning and jumps out the window as the house explodes into a fireball, killing half the team.

Philip's men then attacked, forcing Marilyn and CTU analyst Milo Pressman to flee on foot. They were cornered by Philip's men, but were saved when Jack managed to kill all but one of the attackers. After Marilyn admits to Philip holding Josh hostage, Jack instructs her to demand Philip to let her see Josh before telling him Gredenko's real address.

Jack forced the surviving assailant to take him and Marilyn to the hotel where Philip is keeping Josh. When they arrived, however, Philip and Josh were gone, Philip having figured out the ruse. He did agree to trade between Jack and Josh in the adjacent building. After Philip released Josh, Marilyn and her son fled to safety.

After Jack returns from the Russian consolate, he meets Marilyn. She thanks him for what he has done for her and Josh, and starts to kiss him, but he pulls away. Jack admits that he still has feelings for Marilyn; however, he explains that he was with someone before he was taken to China. Marilyn then tells Jack that Audrey Raines was killed in an accident in China (it was later learned that Audrey was alive and being held by Cheng Zhi).

Towards the end of the season, Marilyn is used as a hostage by Zhou in order to entice Josh from hiding. The ruse is successful, and Zhou turns Josh over to Phillip Bauer as part of a deal with Cheng Zhi. However, Jack rescues Josh, and Marilyn was reunited with her son at the end of the day.
