The Woomera Football League was formed in 1948. The predominance of public service employment in the region was reflected in early participating clubs which included Housing, Koolymilka, Lines & Construction, LWER (Long Range Weapons Experimental Range), RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force), RAE (Royal Australian Engineers - Army) and Works.
In 1986 the Woomera Football League changed name to the Woomera & Districts Football League.
