"Thunder in the Sun" is a 1959 western film made by Carrollton Inc and Seven Arts Productions and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Russell Rouse and produced by Clarence Greene from a screenplay by Russell Rouse and
Stewart Stern, based on a story by James Hill and Guy Trosper. The music score was by Cyril J. Mockridge and the cinematography by Stanley Cortez.

The film stars Susan Hayward, Jeff Chandler with Jacques Bergerac, Blanche Yurka, Carl Esmond Fortunio Bonanova and Veda Ann Borg.

Plot

The film shows a family of French Basque immigrants pioneering into the Wild West while carrying their ancestral vines.

It is infamous among Basques for its misunderstandings of Basque customs, such as the use of the xistera (a device of the jai alai sport) as a weapon or shouting "irrintzi" ululations as meaningful communication.
