Triplespines (Tracanthidae) are a family in the order order of the Tetraodontiformes, which consists of seven species in seven genera, in addition to one extinct genus. Much like their relatives the triggerfish and the filefish, the triplespines's first ray of the dorsal fin is formed to a spine. Further, they have two spines in place of their ventral fins. Not much is known about how the fish live. They live in the Indopacific Ocean. All but the "Triacanthus biaculeatus" are off shore fish, that only come close to land occasionally. "Triacanthus biaculeatus" lives from the Persian Gulf along the Asian coast all the way to Japan, as well as off the coast of Australia. They can get up to 15 to 25 centimeters long.
