genus ofinsect s in the orderLepidoptera . Thiscaddis fly -like lineage of primitive "Kauri moths" was first reported byLionel Jack Dumbleton in 1952, as a newgenus ofMicropterigidae . He described two species, one occurring inQueensland , Eastern Australia [http://www.ento.csiro.au/gallery/moths/Agathiphagaqueenslandensis/agathiphaga_queenslandensis_01] and the other distributed fromFiji toVanuatu andSolomon Islands . The caterpillars feed only on "Agathis " (Araucariaceae ) and are currently considered the second most primitive living lineage of moths afterMicropterigoidea (Kristensen, 1999: 41-44). Remarkably, thelarva has been reported to be able to survive for 12 years indiapause (Upton, 1997), durability possibly a prerequisite to its possible dispersion around the Pacific islands in the seeds ofAgathis .References
