United Community Centers (Brooklyn, NY)

United Community Centers, Inc (UCC) was formed in East New York, Brooklyn in 1954 by tenants in two New York City Housing Projects, who built a membership organization that since its inception has involved families and individuals from the community of mixed racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds in a wide range of programs. UCC’s mission is to provide first-rate services that meet the needs of families; and to involve adults and youth in campaigns for social change, as a vehicle for learning about and resolving community problems.

UCC's programs include: HIV/AIDS education and risk reduction, immigration assistance, the Morris L. Eisenstein Learning Center (MLE), a day care and after-school program that serves 165 youth, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, an asthma education and activism project, a teen dramatics group, the East New York Farms! Urban Agriculture Program, the bi-monthly publication of our community newspaper, The Link, and organizing around the impact of new housing development in ENY.
