Foxo Reardon

Foxo Reardon

Foxo Reardon was the creator of the pantomime comic strip "Bozo". Francis Xavier Reardon was born on January 5, 1905. At the age of sixteen, he became sports cartoonist for the "Richmond Times-Dispatch".

His early work was signed "F. X. Reardon," but the periods after the initials had a somewhat circular form and were taken for an "o" by some. It was through this circumstance that the name "Foxo" was born. Bozo was syndicated in the mid-1950s. It was distributed through the "Chicago Sun-Times" syndicate.

Foxo Reardon died of cancer on November 30, 1955. He was buried on December 3, which was the day of the feast of the saint after whom he had been named.
