Shanti Mandir

Shanti Mandir

Shanti Mandir is a worldwide community of people learning and teaching traditional Hindu or yogic practices both in India and in the United States. It was established in 1987 by Venkateshwar Rao (former Swami Nityanand b. 1962). Originally one of the two successors of Swami Muktananda, Rao resigned from the guru’s seat, and released himself from his duties as a monk, in October 1985. The group has its U.S. headquarters at a small country ashram also called Shanti Mandir in Walden, New York. It also maintains two ashrams in India, one in Magod near Valsad in Gujarat and the other near Haridwar.
