- AnExchange
AnExchange was a
Marin County based folk-rock group of the late 1960's, playing opening acts at San Carlos's "Circle Star Theater " forIke & Tina Turner ,The Everly Brothers andJoan Baez at theEdmonton Folk Music Festival . In 1968 Producer/ Arranger, Saxophonist,Jack Schaeffer discovered the soultry singer,Patty Parsons playing with acoustical Guitarist Dale Jared at Mooneys Irish Pub San Francisco, and with lead Guitarist,Dan Anthony (formerly Jaramillo) formed the new group. They regularly performed at San Francisco's "Coal Yard", Marin County's Gatsbys and were the first group to play at the now famousMill Valley "Sweetwater Saloon ", where they regularly performed. Members of the bandJefferson Airplane caught their act at the Ancient Mariner in Mill Valley. The band was reforming under a new name,Jefferson Starship and Patty's sound and looking a little likeGrace Slick , the Airplane’s lead singer and songwriter who had retired (briefly), they asked if she would join the new group. Instead Dick Anderson of the Sun Valley Company, singed the act to play "The Ram Restaurant" at the Lodge for several ski seasons, at a time when they were the only live music, going on to tour the ski resorts at Sun Valley, Aspen and Steamboat Springs. AnExchange made popular the songs, "Cody", written by exKingston Trio member, John Stewart, "California Lights" and "Wind Beneath My Wings", later recorded byBette Midler . Jack Schaeffer was producer and arranger on "Why Can't I", Patty Parsons first solo album.External links
