Connie Saylor

Connie Saylor

Connie Saylor (June 3, 1940 – February 4, 1993 [1]) was a journeyman NASCAR racecar driver. He did one-off events in the Winston Cup series during the 1980s and early '90s, and also raced in ARCA and Late Model sportsman series. [2] His most infamous moment came in the 1981 Twin 125's, qualifying races for the Daytona 500, in which Saylor spun off Turn 2 and flipped, sliding down the backstretch on his roof for about 1,000 feet. He was uninjured in the crash, but did not qualify for the race. Earlier in that race, John Anderson had a crash at that same corner. Both are in largely of the downsized cars that cars have to drive. He won a Consolation race @ Daytona in 1984. Connie was married to Shirley Nowlin and had two children, Tracy and Tim Saylor. He started a mining/industrial tire and wheel business in Johnson city, TN in 1977 and it's still in operation today by his family.

In Winston Cup racing, he picked up his best finish in his debut race in 1978 -- eighth [3].

Saylor was from Johnson City, Tennessee [4]. As verified by his family, he died at the age of 52 from cancer. [5].
