- Smith & Wesson Centennial
S&W Centennial is a J-frame (small) revolver design with a fully enclosed hammer, which makes it a Double Action Only (DAO) firearm.
Smith & Wesson manufactures "Centennial" revolvers in .38 Special +P (Models 40, 442 and 642), and.357 Magnum (Models 340 and 640).
The original Model 640 (before the 640-1 variant) was chambered for .38 Special. (Note that .357 Magnum revolvers can also shoot .38 Special ammunition.)The original Centennial model, dating to
1952 , was so named for the company's 100th anniversary. Now discontinued, the model 940 was a stainless steel Centennial model chambered for
9x19mm caliber and available in 2-inch and 3-inch barrel lengths.References
