Born in
Budapest, Hungary , Fuchs wasJewish , and the Jews had been barred from bearing arms in the 19th century. He did not belong to any fencing club or win any national tournament, but made it to the Olympics by coming in third in a qualifying competition for the 1908 Olympics. Fuchs won his first
gold medal s in Individual and Team Sabre at the 1908London Olympic Games.Four years later, he repeated those twin victories at the 1912 games in
Stockholm .Fuchs was undefeated at the 1912 Olympiad en route to his gold medals.
In 25 individual matches during his Olympic career, Fuchs’ record was: 22 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw.
Hall of Fame
Fuchs was inducted into the
