Joseph "Joe" Robbie (b.
July 7 ,1916 inSisseton, South Dakota –January 7 ,1990 ) was an Americanlawyer andentrepreneur of Arab descent.Robbie was the original owner of
Miami Dolphins (1966-1990). He, along withDon Shula , led the Dolphins to a 14-0 perfect season and two consecutiveSuper Bowl wins. Additionally, he built the $115-million Dolphin Stadium (later renamed Joe Robbie Stadium, then Pro Player Park, then Pro Player Stadium, then again changed back toDolphin Stadium ) with private funds in 1987.Robbie had a small part playing himself in the film "Black Sunday", in which he is interviewed about security for the 1976 Super Bowl.
Robbie also owned the
Miami Toros and theFort Lauderdale Strikers (later theMinnesota Strikers )soccer teams of theNorth American Soccer League . Joe Robbie Stadium was one of the first majorstadium s in the U.S. designed with soccer in mind. For his contributions to the sport, he was posthumously inducted into theNational Soccer Hall of Fame in 2003.ee also
