Romain Poyet has discovered soccer when he was only 6. He signs his first contract in Roanne, before joining the sport center of Saint Etienne. He remains just one year in Saint etienne while the coaches are juging his physical abilities too narrow for the club needs. After Saint etienne, he joins Roanne and then Pomey. Showing fair progress, he is contacted by Saint Priest, club ranked in the CFA championship. He is rated by Auxerre player of the future during a match of the French cup. In Auxerre, club ranked in the first division of the French soccer championship, Romain Poyet has to face the concurrence of Djibril Cissé and is rarely selected in the first team. He leaves in 2005 Auxerre for Clermont where he is shared and shows some promising action. He comes back in Auxerre for the season 2005-2006, scores a goal, but suffers not being enough selected. He eventually joins Dijon in 2007 and is eventually shared with Brest where he is currently playing for three seasons, plus one optional season according to the conditions of the contract.
