Partei =The community of Jonsdorf is located in the south of the Kreis Görlitz in the southeast of the German federal state of
Saxony . It is embedded into a valley of the Zittauer Gebirge, part of theLusatian Mountains .History
It's been first mentioned in 1539 in a documentary which shows the selling of land to ten new settlers by the monastery of
Oybin . In 1547 the whole land of Oybin has been sold to the city ofZittau by Maximilian the second. In the 1580 Hieronymus Richter established the first quarry to produce millstones out of the special sandstone that can be found in this mountain region. Some decennies later, in 1667 the city-councel of Zittau decided to found some additional quarries in the district between Jonsdorf and Waltersdorf. The production of millstone ended in 1917.
In the next years the villages grew. After cutting down a forest in between the villages of old- and new-Johnsdorf in 1731 the villages began to unify. The same year the construction of a church in Old-Jonsdorf started.
Like so many other villages and towns of the Upper-

The first touristical use of the village stared in 1841 when Karl Linke openend the first "Kaltwasseranstalt" (Cold-water-house). The spa-tourism became important. In 1890 a narrow-gauge railway connection has been opened between Zittau and Jonsdorf - it helped the economical development of the village. After Second World War and the arrival of refugees from Bohemia some new things built in the 1950 - a new icedome and a theatre in the forest. In 1984 a new school has been built. Some new projects ofter the reunification in 1990 helped to develop the economical structure. A new ice and leisure centre was built and in 2004 a "Schmetterlingshaus" (Butterfly-house) was opened.
