KRPR is a Classic Rock radio station in Rochester, Minnesota.

History

KRPR began broadcasting in 1975, under the ownership of Rochester Community and Technical College.

In the late 1990s the station was sold to Rochester Public Radio, the current operator.

Today

The station plays a large variety of classic rock, with jingles every 15 minutes or so reminding the listener that they are listening to "Classic Rock Without the Talk." During the week KRPR rotates "hosting" duties between Jim Geeble, Brian Taylor, Shari Renae, and Roy Achter. The station does not air normal 30-second spots, but rather short "underwriting" messages produced by local radio personalities.

Feature Programs

KRPR also presents many weekly radio features focusing on the classic rock genre.

"Into the Music" -An hour long trip through the history and evolution of a featured artist.

"The Classic Album Show" -A weekly presentation of a full length album from the rock catalog.

"The Bill & Curt Rock Show" -A thematically arranged program delving into "GREAT TUNES"!

"Look Back" -A Rock Retrospective. Each program centering on the top hit music of a year. A class reunion on the radio.

FMeXtra

The station is one of the few nationwide broadcasting in an alternative digital radio standard known as FMeXtra.
