Viktor Šerbu

Viktor Šerbu (born September 15, 1938, Dubrovnik, ),is a Croatian academic painter.

Since his early years Šerbu's artistic talent has been noticed. During his high school days he started to contemplate paining as a future profession. Young Šerbu spent his summer vacations on island of Korčula in the village Smokvica, where his mother was born. As a sixteen year-old, he discovered painting, and every return to Dubrovnik was filled with lots of sketches and drawings. When he turned eighteen, he became acquainted with Kosta Strajnić, the unavoidable Spiritus Movens of Dubrovnik contemporary painting from middle twentieth century.

In 1958 he enrolled to Academy of fine arts in Zagreb, under professors V. Filakovac, K. Hegedušić, A. Mihičić, M. Peić, V. Parać, O. Postužnik, M. Detoni, and Oton Postružnik. After graduation in 1964, he briefly returned to Dubrovnik, but due to a desire to get some insight in world art, he departed to London and Paris. In 1969, he came back to Dubrovnik, where he works as art teacher and professional painter to this day. Šerbu is interested in nature and landscapes.
