Description

'Seiju' is described as smaller than Catlin and faster growing than Hokkaido.

Pests and diseases

The species and its cultivars are highly resistant, but not immune, to Dutch elm disease, and unaffected by the Elm Leaf Beetle "Xanthogaleruca luteola" [http://www.sunshinenursery.com/survey.htm] .

Cultivation

The tree is commercially available in the USA and Australia where it is popular as a bonsai subject Young, H. C. & Young, S. (1980), "Intern. Bonsai", 2(3): 28, 1980 ] . The tree was also listed in the UK until 2002.
