"Wake Up Call" is the second single by Maroon 5 from their second studio album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long". It had been rumored as the second single, and the band confirmed this on the May 22 episode of "TRL". The band also said, on TRL, that they are excited to do the music video for the song. FMQB confirmed that the single would be released to radio on July 17. It leaked online shortly before May 1, 2007 as part of a four track sampler from their latest album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long". They performed the song on 45th at Night, the song included a special guest Eve. If this remix will be officially recorded is unknown. Another remix was with Mary J. Blige making a special guest appearance for this song. There is a link below to the live version of this below.

Before the release of Wake Up Call, the band promoted by performing it a half-step lower. The song was also heard playing in the background in a club scene on the HBO hit, "Entourage". The song was BBC Radio 1 playlisted for the playlist week beginning July 18 2007.

Music video

The music video for "Wake Up Call" is directed by Jonas Åkerlund and filming took place on July 7-9, 2007. The video is presented as a trailer for an imaginary NC-17-rated movie. It features Adam Levine's leading lady for the video Kim Smith, talking with Levine, asking for his forgiveness since she had sex with a man that Levine didn't know and Levine's main rivalmate for the video. In it, Levine catches his girlfriend cheating on him with another man (played by Jeremy Sisto), whom he then shoots and kills. The rest of the video centers around Maroon 5 and Adam's girlfriend going through an elaborate plan to cover up the murder. In the end, the entire band is captured and in the last scene of the video, Adam is given the electric chair. It also features pole dancers, strippers (one of which is pornstar Stormy Daniels) and criminals (played by other Maroon 5 members).

According to the band's official website, the music video released on Tuesday, July 31, 12:00 AM PST and premiered on MTV's website in August 2007. On MTV and VH1, the video was shortened and changed up a bit. In the director's cut, Levine's girlfriend says "We both fucked up". In the edited version, it was replaced by "We both screwed up". The edited version also ends with Levine just going to sleep in his cell instead of being executed in the electric chair. The music video has been viewed over 7,380,869 times.
