Georg, Duke of Hohenberg was born at
Artstetten Castle , community ofArtstetten-Pöbring ,Lower Austria , on25 April 1929 . He is the second son ofMaximilian, Duke of Hohenberg and Countess Maria von Waldburg zu Wolfegg und Waldsee. He is also a grandson ofArchduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria andHungary ,Heir Presumptive to the throne of theAustro-Hungarian Empire , and hismorganatic wifeSophie, Duchess of Hohenberg .Following the collapse of the Monarchy, all Austrian titles were abolished by law in 1919 and from there on the names consists only of prename and surname, without
von or title, scilicet "Georg Hohenberg".He was born Prince Georg of Hohenberg, but on
16 August 1977 on the death of his elder brother,Franz, Duke of Hohenberg , Prince Georg became the 3rd Duke of Hohenberg and Head of theHouse of Hohenberg . Georg Hohenberg was a diplomat and was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to several countries with his last appointment being to theHoly See during the pontificate ofPope John Paul II .Family

4 July 1960 Duke Georg married Princess Eleonore of Auersperg-Breunner at Schloss Wald. The couple have three children:#HSH Prince Nikolaus of Hohenberg, born 3 July 1961 at Boulogne-sur-Seine ; married 6 May 1989 at Fürstenberg, Westphalia to Countess Marie Elisabeth von Westphalen zu Fürstenberg and has issue.

#HSH Prince Maximilian of Hohenberg, born 25 January 1970 at Buenos Aires; married 9 September 2000 in Lucca to Emilia Oliva Cattaneo Vieti and has issue.
