Ehndorf transmitter

Ehndorf transmitter is a mediumwave broadcasting facility of Deutsche Telekom for transmitting the programme of Deutschlandfunk at Ehndorf, a village west of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein. It went in service in November 1967 and works on a frequency of 1269 kHz ( until 1978 1268 kHz) with a power of 300 kW ( from 1967 to 1995 600 kW).As the frequency of Ehndorf transmitter is also used by a station in Novi Sad, Serbia, it had to be used directional radiation at nighttime. Therefore the antenna of Ehndorf transmitter consists of 2 masts. Both masts of Ehndorf transmitter are groundfed 65 metre tall lattice steel constructions guyed in one level.Because of its directional radiation pointing toward Nortwest, Ehndorf transmitter can be easily received in UK at night time. It was therefore also used to transmit English programmes. A further special transmission, which is still performed today is the transmission of special nautical meteorological reports to certain times, which are especially important for hobby captains.
