The idea for the organization was first conceptualized byMoisés Naím in1993 and is currently sponsored by theCarnegie Endowment for International Peace , a leadingthink tank based inWashington D.C. dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by theUnited States . G-50 members meet regularly to exchange their unique experiences and to develop initiatives in response to the imperatives caused by neweconomic andpolitical developments in theLatin America and the rest of the world.
