The England team visited Sri Lanka in November 1984 prior to the tour of India.

The only first-class match versus the Sri Lanka Board President's XI at Colombo Cricket Club Ground was drawn; and a single limited overs game against a Sri Lankan XI at the Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Stadium in Colombo was abandoned after 38 overs due to torrential rain.
