Clerkhill

Clerkhill

Clerkhill is an area of the town of Peterhead in north east Scotland. Surrounded by the areas of Meethill, Dales Park and Coplandhill, it is one of the bigger areas of the town.

Amenities

There are a number of amenities within the area. These are: 2 schools Clerkhill Primary School and Anna Ritchie School; 2 shopping complexes within 50 yards of each other, comprising 14 establishments: 2 mini-marts, 3 fast food take-aways, 2 newsagents (1 with a post office), 1 carpet shop, 1 flower shop, 1 computer shop, 1 baker, 1 bookmaker, 1 pharmacy, 1 hair-salon. (There was a picture framing shop, however this has shut down and the pharmacy hsa extended into this property)

Public Houses

Behind the largest of these complexes is a public house named The Clerkhill Inn its the best , which is often referred to as The Clarky or The Bin (for reasons unknown) by some of its younger patrons. Such culturally impaired youths whom refer to it as the bin are frequently reminded by Clerkhill Inn devotees, it's their ma's who answer to callings such as 'the bin'. It has two main parts to it: the public bar and the lounge.

The bar is usually quite busy at any time of the day, and will be mostly full of 'locals' or regulars. Most of the regulars are usually aged 50+ and like to spend their time sitting at the bar drinkin. By way of distractions it has two pool tables, a dart board, a games machine, and a rather old-fashioned juke-box.

The lounge is a rather more staid affair. It is often empty on week days, but one or two of the Inn's younger patrons may be found there on Friday and Saturday nights. By way of distractions there is only one fruit machine and a juke-box. During it´s early years this was one of the major drinking and entertainment places in the town with many good bands and discos playing

Green areas

There are two large green areas to be found in the area of Clerkhill. There is a park to be found in the north eastern part, which is next to the town's Lido bay, and is therefore called The Links. It is split down the middle by a long path. To the East there is a large grass area with a few bumps that is not used for anything other than walking and sledging when there is snow. To the west there are two football pitches, which are reasonably well maintained and are utilised by many of the local football clubs.

Eden Park is situated in the west part of the area. It is split into three sections. Two of these sections are just grassy areas, one of which is often used for games of football by various users, the other is used mainly as a thoroughfare. The third section has some swings, et cetera, for younger children to amuse themselves with.
