Piracy is theft

Piracy is theft

"Piracy is theft" was a slogan used by FAST. [http://www.ntk.net/2002/11/29/elspa.gif] [http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/antipiracy.htm] It was first used in the 1980s and has since then been used by other similar organisations such as MPAA [http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-520722.html] .

The slogan is compared with Pierre-Joseph Proudhon's "Property is theft!" for ironic value.

As piracy, copyright infringement and theft of property are legally distinct in all jurisdictions, the statement that "piracy is theft" is never literally, or legally, true.
