HMAS Paluma

Four Australian naval vessels have been named "Paluma", after an Aboriginal word meaning "thunder";

*The first HMQS "Paluma" was a gunboat built in 1884.
*The second HMAS "Paluma" was an auxiliary patrol boat built in 1941.
*The third HMAS "Paluma", previously known as Motor Stores Lighter No 252 (MSL 252), was built in 1944-45 before being converted for survey work and commissioned as HMAS "Paluma" in 1946.
*The fourth HMAS "Paluma" (A 01) is the lead ship of the "Paluma" class of motor launches, built in 1989 and in service as of 2008.
