Burren Action Group (B.A.G.) evolved as a local response to oppose plans by the Irish National Parks and Wildlife Service to develop a large scale interpretative centre at Mullaghmore in the Burren, Co. County Clare, Ireland. The group was finally successful, after approximately ten years of opposition, on March 6, 2000 in an appeal by the Burren Action Group care of Environmental Management Services. The Burren Action Group were a collective of concerned locals who were striving to maintain the natural integrity of the landscape and to protect the envoirnment from greedy government self interests. They also felt that the Burren and the area of Mullaghmore is a sacred mythic and holy ground that needed to be defended in a country whose sites of profound historical importance are rapidly disappearing.
Fundraising
Burren Action Group compiled an album in the early 1990's, titled Music in the Stone, to help raise money to save Mullaghmore because "...the wheels of greed are rolling towards it".Music in the Stone The attempt by the group to save the mountain was successful on March 6, 2000.
