The Braunschweig Lions (BSL) were founded in
1985 . In 1994 they entered the 1. Bundesliga, the present dayGerman Football League (GFL). After three years in the GFL, they won their first championship of theGerman Bowl in1997 . Since then, the Lions have been in every final of the German Bowl and have captured it seven times (1997-1999, 2005-2008). After three consecutive titles, they lost a close game in 2003. (2003: 36:37 vs.Hamburg Blue Devils ). They have a fierce rivalry with the Blue Devils, and they were avenged with a 31:28 victory in the "German Bowl XXVII" at theAWD-Arena inHannover .Titles
