He then studied History and Polish Studies atAlliance College ,Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania , receiving a BA in1984 . Later that year he travelled toPoland on a scholarship from theKosciuszko Foundation to attend Krakow'sJagiellonian University . After the fall of theIron Curtain in1989 , he decided to settle permanently in Poland. Since that time he has lived inGliwice , an industrial city inUpper Silesia .
