television programme aired onbusiness news channelCNBC Europe from 5pm to 6pm CET (4pm to 5pm WET), and from 11am to 12pm onCNBC World in theUnited States . The programme is presented fromLondon by Guy Johnson alongside regular reporterAnna Martin . The show covers the last half hour of trades in theEurope an equity markets, and reports on the day's final numbers and top stories as the markets close at 5:30pm CET. As the major European markets are electronic, no actual "closing bell" is rung - nonetheless there is a countdown on the CNBC Europe strap and video wall until the close of trade. Other regular segments include a daily "Guest Investor", who appears again for a second segment in "Europe Tonight ", and atechnical analysis slot.Prior to
2007-03-26 , the programme ran for two hours until 7pm CET. The second hour of the programme was of a slower pace, offering a more in-depth look at financial and political events. During major Europeantrade fair s and political events such as EU summits andelection s, "European Closing Bell" was often anchored live from these events. Many of these features were incorporated into the extended "Europe Tonight " after its relaunch on the same date.Prior to June 2003, "European Closing Bell" was known as "
European Market Wrap ". The theme music for "European Closing Bell" is the same as that used by the US version of "Closing Bell " prior to the2005-12-19 US relaunch. (This was also used by "Europe Tonight" until March 2007, when that changed to the music used by "Street Signs" until December 2005).ee also
